Official data shows that murders in Mexico rose by 33 percent in 2018, breaking the record for the second year in a row.
According to Reuters, this data shows that the Mexican president faces the large task to bring numbers down. President Andrés Manuel López Obrador pledged to reduce violence in a country hurting from cartels. Information from the Interior Ministry showed 33,341 murder probes in 2018 compares to 25,036 in 2017.
Out of Mexico’s 32 regions, Guanajuato has the highest number of murder probes at 3,290.
