According to a report by Gizmodo, NASA’s New Horizons probe has detected something strange about its distant target Ultima Thule as it gets ready for a fly-by on New Years Day.
The oddly shaped object has negligible light curves, something that is unusual in a rotating object whose surface should reflect incoming light from the Sun.
Gizmodo reports that New Horizons will whiz past Ultima Thule at 12:33 Eastern Time on the first day of 2019 at speeds in excess of 31,500 miles per hour.
