Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) has officially filed for divorce from her husband Ahmed Hirsi, who is the father of her three children.
Omar claims in her court filing that her marriage is “irretrievable,” and she made the claim on her 37th birthday. Omar and Hirsi have had an on-and-off relationship for many years, marrying in 2002 before separating in 2008 and then becoming legally remarried in 2018. It appears the relationship will finally come to an end with this divorce.
She has requested “joint legal and physical custody” over their three young children, and asked the court to administer child support in a way that would “serve the minor children’s best interest.”
She also requested the court to distribute “marital property” as the court “may deem just and equitable.”
NY Post has reported on the alleged steamy affair between Omar and Tim Mynett, a Washington D.C. political operative who has been paid approximately $230,000 through his E. Street Group to provide campaign services to Omar. NY POST wrote:
“Rep. Ilhan Omar has filed for divorce from the father of her three kids, claiming the marriage is “irretrievable” — amid allegations that she had an affair with DC-based political consultant Tim Mynett.
The freshman congresswoman filed to split from husband Ahmed Hirsi on Friday in Minnesota, the state she represents, The Post has learned. Omar filed on her 37th birthday, according to the US House of Representatives’ archives.
Omar and Hirsi were married in a religious ceremony in 2002. The two separated in 2008, then legally remarried in 2018. “There has been an irretrievable breakdown of the marriage relationship,” the court documents filed in Minnesota say.”
Omar said neither partner is seeking an order of protection and she asks the court to grant them “joint legal and physical custody” of their three minor children.
Omar’s incendiary socialist beliefs are arguably less explosive than her drama-filled love life. The Somali migrant has long been rumored to have married her brother for the purposes of committing immigration fraud.
